Knowing the civil engineering

To know the civil engineering, we must know that it is a civil work.

Civil work:

A civil work is a performance of man in nature that is used to provide benefits to society. The civil work can be called also public works, not in vain in some times the ministry in charge has been called this way.
Traditionally civil works exist as opposed to military works. In past times, almost all the works had an exclusive military interest since the states, before the French revolution, had no interest in the use of the own resources to generate social goods. Therefore, the money was used in works that had strategic military interest. It is when the bourgeoisie comes to power when states begin to think about the social good and therefore begin to use money in building works with that interest. Thus began to study the territory to organize, supply and communicate.

The civil works are, therefore, the result of the public initiative in the territory, in such a way that this action results in the benefit of the society. It is, therefore, a social and useful action.

Civil engineering:

Civil engineering is born of the relationship that man establishes with nature in his need to inhabit the world. Places to live, roads to move, bridges and tunnels to save obstacles, channels to transport water, dams to embalm, ports to protect the sea. Useful, large-scale works that define a technique and materialize in a process of realization. Civil engineering builds the landscape of the world.
Civil engineering is a branch of engineering, which applies the knowledge of physics, chemistry, calculation, geography and geology to the elaboration of structures, hydraulic works and transport. The name "civil" is due to its origin differentiated from military engineering.
It also has a strong organizational component that achieves its application in the administration of the urban environment mainly, and often rural; Not only with regard to construction, but also to the maintenance, control and operation of the built, as well as in the planning of human life in the environment designed from the same. This includes territorial organization plans such as disaster prevention, traffic and transport control, water resources management, public services, waste treatment and all those activities that guarantee the well-being of humanity that develops its life on constructed civil works and Operated by civil engineers.

Academic training

Civil engineers hold an academic degree in civil engineering. The study time is between 4 and 5 years for a bachelor's degree in engineering (bachelor of engineering in Anglo-Saxon countries), which is necessary for postgraduate studies (master's degrees in engineering and doctor's degree in engineering).

In most countries, the university degree is the first step to professional certification and the degree program itself is certified by a professional college. After completing a certified degree program the engineer must meet a number of requirements (including work experience and examination) before being certified. Once certified, the engineer is appointed with the title of professional engineer (in the United States, Canada and South Africa), or collegiate engineer (in most Commonwealth countries), collegiate professional engineer (in Australia and New Zealand) or European engineer (for some countries of the European Union). There are international agreements between colleges of engineers that allow engineers from other countries to exercise outside their borders. In Spain any person who completes the career can exercise and collegiate, without any additional requirements such as experience or examination.

The advantages of certification vary depending on the site. For example, in the United States and Canada "only a licensed professional engineer can prepare, sign and seal, and deliver an engineering project to a public authority for approval, or seal for public or private clients." In the state of Quebec, in Canada, this is so. In the United Kingdom there is no such restrictive legislation in Spain although there are schools that can expel their members for malpractice and thus not be able to exercise. It is assumed that all engineers must respect an ethical code and that if they do not they can be blamed for negligence.

In Spain, the Civil Engineering / Public / Civil and Territorial Engineering degrees (among other names) (4 years and 240 ECTS), as well as the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering (from 1 to 2 years and 66 to 120 ECTS), which have respectively been awarded the official titles of Technical Engineer of Public Works and Engineer of Roads, Channels and Ports and grant the regulated professional competences in the sector. Such degrees generally include units covering physics, mathematics, project management, design, and specific civil engineering subjects. Normally at the beginning of the degree the subjects cover the majority, if not all, of the subdisciplines of civil engineering. Students then choose to specialize in the final part of the degree in one or more subdisciplines in order to complete their degrees. In addition to the Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, which attributes the specific competencies of that regulated profession, universities generally also offer masters of specialization to improve the knowledge of the civil engineer in an area of particular interest within civil engineering.

In Central America and South America: At present, 5 years are being studied for the "civil engineering degree", which is necessary for postgraduate studies, such as "master in engineering of structures, hydraulics, numerical methods", then "doctorate". The subjects necessary to obtain the degree of civil engineer are classified between mathematics and basic sciences, and subjects directed already to the civil engineering like:

Introduction to Engineering
Earthquakes
Bridges
Construction materials
Topography
Geology
Hydrology
Mechanical, sanitary and electrical installations.
Administration and inspection of works
Structure 1 and 2
Foundations and walls
Acueductos
Valuations.

Among others equally important to those already mentioned, so in this period of 5 years would graduate a considerable number of good and prepared civil engineers.
